New Backing Track: "Song For Bobby" by Pyramid
“Song for Bobby” composed by David Hirschfelder, features Bob Venier on Flugelhorn. The cutting edge Australian jazz-fusion band Pyramid achieved cult status and went on to gain top billing at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1983. It comprised David Hirschfelder on Keys, Bob Venier on Trumpet/Flugelhorn, David Jones on Drums, and Roger McLachlan on Bass. According to David:
“Song For Bobby was written for and dedicated to Bobby Venier, Pyramid's wonderful Trumpet/Flugelhorn player and inspirational "guru". I always thought of Bobby's sound as the "spiritual voice" of Pyramid. The melody seems reminiscent of a Neapolitan style of melodic writing that reflects Bobby's Italian heritage. Whilst I was totally unaware of this unconscious creative thought at the time, it now seems really obvious to me in hindsight.”
