Roundtrip is the English translation of "Dagretour" (the tune's alternate title), which is the Dutch word for... "day roundtrip." The word comes from a train ticket when I was going from Amsterdam to Leiden for a day.
In terms of devices, I'm not sure how to describe it technically, but the left hand "ostinato" (I put that word in inverted commas because it does change slightly every bar with voice/harmony leading) is the driving force behind the tune - both in terms of rythm and harmonic progression. Then there's the dotted-crotchet-vibe hits, which were more inspired by a French pianist, Baptiste Trotignon, who I was checking out a lot back then (and still am!). That's the main device that I've borrowed from his writing.
