Manaus

Version I is featured on my album Otra Vez. I produced this recording inviting guests including celebrated Latin-jazz flautist Dave Valentin, pianist Joe Chindamo, vocalist Nilusha Dassenaike, guitarist Leonard Grigoryan, sarodist Saby Bhattacharya, bassist Craig Newman and drummer David Jones. I perform on a variety of instruments including berimbau, congas, vibes, glockenspiel as well as an array of percussive effects. The hypnotic rhythmic pulse of the work is steered by the Afro-Brazilian berimbau, a one-string bow that is the guiding light in the Afro-Brazilian capoeira ensemble.

Version II is featured on my album Lusambo. A somewhat diverse rhythmic setting combining Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian forms. I produced this version of the piece which features pianist Colin Hopkins, flautist John Barrett and bassist Mike Mathews. I perform on two diversely tuned berimbaus, congas, bongos, timbales, cymbals, cowbells, vibes, marimba, synthesizers as well as on an array of percussive effects.
