Monique DiMattina - “Serafina Lucid Dreamer”
Extract the autumnal colours around these weaving lines & countermelodies. Endurance and continuity are important here, as well as crafting space around the melody.
Chris Cody - “Oasis"
Many ways to tackle this depending on what ensemble you have available: double the LH riff, double the melody with a horn player, show some montuno chops over the riff
Andrea Keller - “Time Takes Us“
Amazing things going on here: the theme in LH voiceleading with the Double Bass; the unison head doubled with guitar. AK is the most represented composer in the AJRB, and rightly so. Interesting music you won’t find anywhere else.
Nat Bartsch - “Here I Am, Just For You“
Incredibly beautiful playing here: challenge is in the control of sustain and the how the notes ring in the air, and painting those beautiful colours.
Ben Winkelman - “The Wonky Waltz“
This is so much fun, cheeky, and colourful. And tricky. In 5. It's all the things. It's a great study in itself. The solo is great, there's lots of ideas to catch onto, so dive in!
Brekky Boy - “Blue Cow“
Very cool Radiohead vibes, modern sounds. Effects, synths, delay repeats, sub-bass. Dirty changes. Going to need to woodshed that metronome on this one. Brekky Boy makes the difficult sound easy, and is really pushing it forward here.
David Dower - “Mravka“
Selene Messinis - “Matriarch“
Prog-metal fused with nu-jazz. And absolutely shredding it! High level of difficulty here to say the least. In the ballpark of Animals as Leaders, Plini and Tigran Hamasyan. Incredibly exciting new sounds here.
Luke Howard - “Cibi“
Beautiful, liminal. Deceptively easy. Fantastic trio dynamics and textures.
You might light to check this out too; an insight into how these sounds are created.
Daniel Gassin - “7e Arrondissment“
Funky in 7. Yeah.

Barney McAll - “Yemaya“
Fantastic tune here by one of Australia’s greatest. Even this is a large ensemble, this tune could be done in a trio. Great opportunity to solo over a fat reggae riff too.
Zela Margossian “Ceasefire”
Catchy & Funky grooves here in “odd” time signatures - but they’re not odd at all. Maybe currently unfamiliar perhaps, but there can be no other way. Total earworm!
