Biography

Cameron is a jazz clarinettist and saxophonist with passion that focusses on performing early swing and traditional New Orleans music. In homage to these jazz roots, he is well versed in composing and arranging music inspired by traditional New Orleans genre, coupled with a distinct Australian influence.

Cameron is a native of Melbourne, Australia, and a Bachelor of Music graduate from theUniversity of South Australia (UniSA). In 2018 he travelled abroad to the United States, where he studied jazz clarinet performance, under the tutelage of Harry Skoler and Lance Van Lenton, at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Upon returning home in 2020, Cameron undertook and completed an honours degree at Melbourne University, with a focus in jazz and improvisation.

Cameron honed his skills by studying under and performing with some of the finest Australian jazz educators including, Carl Mackay, Matt Jodrell, Angela Davis, David Jones, Troy Roberts, Ross Irwin and Sam Anning. Several notable international artists who also guided Cameron along his journey including Jeff Clayton, Wycliffe Gordon, and Julien Bliss. 

Cameron is a member of The Garden of Joy collective, led by Berklee alumni Hunter Burgamy and Colescott Rubin, and was delighted to perform with them as they supported Catherine Russell at the Beantown Jazz Festival, 2018, and at the Satchmo Summer Fest in New Orleans in 2019. He has also performed in a number of Berklee ensembles, of whom have celebrated the music of Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen, as well as Dolly Parton and Aretha Franklin at Berklee Performance Centre.

In Melbourne, Cameron is an active member of the jazz community, and leads several of his own ensembles, from duo all the way up to a septet. His debut album is titled “The Art of The Stomp”, and was released in July of 2021. He is soon to release his second album in the later half of 2024.
